Net consumption (MWh)#
indexed by: asset, energy, node, technology and test case
Description#
This KPI computes the aggregated net consumption over the entire period for each asset that consumes any energy, except for CO2 and captured CO2.
Contrary to the KPI Consumption, this KPI doesn’t directly return optimized consumption variables. In fact, the asset net consumption is the asset’s raw consumption minus its production of the same energy.
For instance, a CCGT asset’s consumption and net consumption are the same as long as it does not produce the same energy that it consumes (electricity and gas). However, for a gas storage, it’s consumption is greater than its net consumption because the asset produces and consumes gas.
Modelling hint
This KPI enables to visualize the energy that is actually consumed during the period, without taking into account the energy that is stored, i.e. consumed and then “produced” from the model’s point of view.
Calculation#
The equation below is valid for any realization and is therefore implicitly indexed by test case.
Let be \(x_{a, e, n}\) the net consumption returned by the KPI for a given asset \(a\), energy \(e\) and node \(n\). Technology is directly deduced from the asset. We can then express \(x_{a, e, n}\) as:
This formula is only valid for asset \(a\) consuming energy \(e\) : this means that the calculation happens only if asset \(a\) has the “modelling capacity” to consume energy \(e\) (pure production assets are not taken into account here). For instance, the net electrical consumption of a CCGT isn’t defined. Additionally, \(p_{a, e, n}(t)\) is zero for all the timesteps if the asset doesn’t produce the same energy it consumes.
Global variables and parameters notations definitions can be consulted here.
Indexing#
The asset index refers to the name of the asset
The energy index is the energy consumed by the asset
The node index of this KPI refers to the node in which the asset consumes
The technology index refers to the technology type of the asset
The test case index corresponds the test case of the realization variables and parameters are taken from
