Pathway total costs (€/pathway)#

indexed by: asset, cost type, node, pathway, technology, test case

Description#

This indicator is used to compare pathways together over cost criteria. As in the KPI Total costs, this KPI refers to the total costs of the system (i.e., the total costs of operating the system which are the costs directly linked to the operation of each asset present in the system) as defined in the KPI System costs, to which are added investment costs and fixed operating costs.

Contrary to the KPI Total costs, this KPI returns the actualized sum of these costs gathered in a single value per pathway. It enables the user to compare directly pathways between one another.

Calculation#

All the equations below are valid for any realization and are therefore implicitly indexed by test case. The same remark applies to technology as this index is directly linked to the asset.

Let be \(x_{a, c, n}\) the value returned by this KPI for a given asset \(a\), cost type \(c\) and node \(n\). We can then express \(x_{a, c, n}\) as :

\[x_{a, c, n} = \sum_{pe} \left( t_{a, c, n, pe} \times w_pe \right)\]

with:

  • \(t_{a, c, n, pe}\) the value returned by the KPI Total costs, for a given asset \(a\), cost type \(c\), node \(n\), pathway \(p\) and period \(pe\).

  • \(w_pe = w_{p, 0} \times \left(\frac{1}{1 + R}\right)^{x - x_0}\) with \(R\) the global discount rate, and \(x\) and \(x_0\) respectively the current pathway step year and the first year of the pathway.

  • \(w_0 = \frac{{1 - \left(\frac{1}{{1 + R}}\right)^\text{D}}}{{1 - \frac{1}{{1 + R}}}}\) with \(D\) the period duration

Indexing#

  • The cost type index of this KPI refers to the type of cost. For more details, see the KPIs System costs and Total costs.

  • The remarks regarding the share of costs between energies and the distribution between nodes for straddling assets as defined in the KPI System costs are still valid for this indicator.

  • The test case index corresponds to the test case from which realization variables and parameters are taken from.
